Storage Hints & Tips

GENERAL STORAGE HINTS
Use proper packaging to protect your precious items while being stored e.g. cartons, bubble wrap, packing paper, and port-a-robes (for hanging and storing clothing). Wanaka Storage Solutions have all these items for sale.

Always remove batteries when storing battery operated toys, remote controls, torches etc.
Drain petrol and oil when storing lawnmowers, weed eaters etc.
Use bubble wrap for all mirrors, prints and paintings.

FURNITURE
Make sure all cupboards, drawers, dining and lounge chairs are cleaned of any food products as this can attract vermin.

WHITEWARE
Fridges, freezers and any other white ware should be cleaned and thoroughly dry before storing. When putting these appliances into storage leave the doors slightly open. Make sure items are not left on shelving as this can cause damage and marking on the linings.

GLASSWARE AND DISHES
Protect fragile Items by using packing paper or bubble wrap. Fill any gaps in cartons with scrunched up packing paper as this alleviates movement inside the carton when it is being moved. When stacking cartons make sure cartons with fragile items are always stacked on top. To avoid any confusion clearly mark “fragile" on cartons where needed.

ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT
Plasmas, LCDs, stereos, surround sound systems, and computers should be wrapped with bubble wrap. Plasmas and LCDs should be stored in their original cartons where possible and always stored on their edge. If the appliance is not in the original carton then you can use scrunched up paper to fill up any gaps.
